Live Free From the Fear of Insanity

The fear of insanity often affects more people than realized. Those that work in the mental health profession may develop symptoms relating or a full phobia. Often this occurs from working with clients and seeing the effects of mental illness. On the other hand, there are those that have experienced a traumatic event as a child that contributes to their fear of becoming insane.

This kind of irrational fear has been around for some time. Decades ago there were asylums that built special sections for those that feared madness as they put it. Often, they were closed off from others so that they would not see others who suffered with mental illness. They had the right the commit themselves and did not have to worry about having a record of mental illness as an effect.

Lyssophobia and maniophobia, are two other names for the fear of insanity. Some suggest that there is an increased risk of suicide involved with the irrational fear of becoming insane. When an individual sees one of their parents going insane or already is, then this fear is intensified tenfold.

People always want to have a sense of control. When you have the fear of insanity, it involves losing touch with one’s mind, which can be a scary thing for anyone. No one wants to lose control of his or her thinking processes.
