Watch episodes 1-25 of the experimental music TV present New Wave Theatre on archive.org.
New Wave Theatre was broadcast domestically within the Los Angeles space through the early 80s as a part of the late-night selection tv present Night Flight. Peter Ivers hosted New Wave Theatre, David Jove produced, created, and co-wrote this system with Billboard journal editor Ed Ochs. New Wave Theatre stood out for showcasing rising punk and new wave acts equivalent to X, Dangerous Faith, Concern, the Lifeless Kennedys, 45 Grave, The Indignant Samoans, and The Circle Jerks.
The present began with a montage of clips from punk and new wave acts whereas the title appeared and the theme track, an abrupt combination of Concern’s “Camarillo” and The Blasters’ “American Music” performed. Ivers would seem firstly and finish of every present carrying darkish glasses, spouting a stream-of-consciousness spiel about life, artwork, and music.
New Wave Theatre abruptly led to 1983 when Ivers was tragically discovered bludgeoned to dying in his Los Angeles Condo. To this present day, no person has been capable of finding the assassin chargeable for his dying.
I want I’d have been round within the ’80s to really feel the joy of this cutting-edge present approaching late at night time, however I am having a blast watching the episodes which were uploaded to Archive.org. I am unable to consider something on TV at this time that compares to the coolness of New Wave Theatre on any degree.
