Drunk birds in North Texas | Boing Boing

Residents in North Texas are reporting birds performing crazy, disoriented, and smashing into home windows in rising numbers. Seems, it is the widespread phenomenon of migrating cedar waxwings consuming berries which have fermented into booze. From UPI:

“As a result of they eat predominantly berries, generally they eat berries which have fermented and are just a little bit previous their prime,” Rachel Richter, an city wildlife biologist with the Texas Division of Parks and Wildlife, told WFAA-TV. “Typically they have a tendency to overindulge just a little bit, which might get them intoxicated.[…]

Cedar waxwings are generally found in Texas from late December till April. Consultants mentioned the birds have giant livers that may detoxify the ethanol and forestall them from struggling any long-term unwell results from fermented berries.
