Breakdancing will be an official sport at the Paris 2024 Olympics | Boing Boing

The Worldwide Olympic Committee introduced on Monday that breakdancing will likely be an official occasion on the 2024 Olympic Video games in Paris. From The Guardian:

It made its Olympic debut on the 2018 Summer time Youth Video games in Buenos Aires. The IOC has confirmed it is going to be staged at a prestigious downtown venue, becoming a member of sport climbing and 3-on-3 basketball at Place de la Concorde.

The information was greeted with delight by the British breakdancer Karam Singh. “It should be nice for breaking because it provides us extra recognition as a sport,” he stated. “And for the Olympics, it should appeal to younger individuals who might not comply with among the conventional sports activities.”

Whereas many concerned in breaking have been pleased, some expressed considerations that the game – which is influenced by a wide range of sources similar to gymnastics, faucet dance, capoeira and kung fu – might lose its authenticity by turning into a part of the Olympic motion.
